A hematology test is a measurement of blood to help diagnose and monitor many conditions. Hematologists and hematopathologists are highly trained healthcare providers who specialize in diseases of the blood and blood components. These include blood and bone marrow cells. Hematological tests can help diagnose anemia, infection, hemophilia, bloodclotting disorders, and leukemia. Rescue Lab performs routine hematology testing, limited coagulation, and various body fluid testing and analysis. The testing utilizes the latest technologies to provide the most accurate results. Complete blood counts (CBC) provides white blood cell results (white blood cell count, differential cell count and leukocyte morphology), red cell results (red cell count, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, red cell indices and red cell morphology), platelet results (platelet count, mean platelet volume and smear estimate. The CBC test is performed using 3-part Automated Hematology Analyzes. These instruments flag any samples with suspected abnormalities, which are then double checked. The Hematology Laboratory also performed body fluid analysis including:
- Automated Urinalysis with the IRIS
- Rapid pregnancy screening
- Stool analyses for occult blood
- Joint fluid analyses for crystal evaluation, cell counts, WBC differentials
- Cell counts and WBC differentials on CNS, pleural and ascetic fluids
Hematology is the specialty responsible for the diagnosis and management of a wide range of benign and malignant disorders of the red and white blood cells, platelets and the coagulation system in adults and children. Hematology is a rapidly advancing field of pathology which requires the use of advanced instruments and techniques. Rescue Lab provides a comprehensive clinical and laboratory diagnostic service. Expertise within the team covers the areas of haemato-oncology, stem cell transplantation, hemostasis and thrombosis, general consultative and diagnostic hematology. Rescue Lab also works closely with child health teams to support the diagnosis and management of children with haematological problems and with immunology to provide highly specialist diagnostic services. Rescue Lab provides routine and urgent automated blood counting and morphological profiling, coagulation screening, transfusion (blood grouping, antibody screening and blood/blood product provision), specialist hemostasis and haemoglobinopathy investigations.
